Riftmaker first sprang to life as a novel and was my first experiment in adapting a story to a screenplay. However, this pilot bears little resemblance to those early attempts and sets up conflicts on different scales to paint a fuller picture of the scope of the series as a whole. It is also much darker than the original YA story, and I’ve applied the lessons I learned about horror and suspense in crafting this fresh fantasy thriller.
